CRISTINA FLORES PESCORÁN: ÑIÑI PARA FLORECER ÑAÑA

July 26 - October 5, 2025

Ñiñi para florecer Ñaña is an exploratory journey into the family memories and personal experiences of Cristina Flores Pescorán, especially those marked by the sea: the Pacific Ocean in northern Peru, where the artist spent long periods of her childhood, but also where she first began to notice the marks and depigmentation on her skin. After years of biopsies and medical exams, these signs were diagnosed as cancer, marking the beginning of a prolonged process of treatment and topical chemotherapy.

In exploring different ways of dialoguing with cancer, Pescorán’s work becomes a commitment to giving material form to memory, affection, and desire, as an act of necessity in reclaiming agency over her body. Inventing her own healing rituals, her textile sculptures become stand-ins for her skin, dyed with medicinal plants in an attempt at healing.

Evoking seeds, bark, and ocean waves—but also the desert, sand, and sunsets—Pescorán refers to her deep connection with the natural environment, and to the sun, which for a long time was perceived as a threat to her health.

Curated by Miguel A. López,  Ñiñi para florecer Ñaña, proposes a return to the ocean and to familial intimacy, as a connector between geographies, bodies, and times. Her work thus becomes an intimate and collective ritual: a silent alchemy, but also a glimmer of transformative beauty.
